FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH OF HADLEY
FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH OF HADLEY
UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST
SERVE AT CHURCH
Doing God's work offers joy to those we serve and to ourselves. You will find many ways to serve others and God through the ministries of our congregation such as joining the knitting ministry that makes prayer shawls for the convalescing, hats for the homeless, and newborn caps for area hospitals. You can get involved in working with the children and youth in the classroom or on special outings and trips, or get involved with various mission projects. If you like music, join our choir or handbell choir. You are welcome to try out your leadership skills on one of our committees, lead an adult learning class, or become a deacon and get involved in worship. Many opportunities abound!
SERVE LOCALLY
In the spirit of acting locally, service to others within our community is an essential part of our ministry. If you are interested in any of these opportunities to serve, please contact the church office at 413-584-4117 for more information.
Take and Eat
On the first Saturday of each month volunteers prepare and deliver a nutritious and delicious meal for residents of Hadley who are in need of assistance with meal preparation. Volunteers are always welcome! If you know of someone who might enjoy our delicious meals, please contact the church office.
Hadley Food Pantry
Our church partners with the local Catholic church to run the Hadley Food Pantry. It is open every Sunday from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. for Hadley residents. We welcome volunteers to staff the food pantry on Sundays. Food and/or money donations are always welcome and gladly received.
Cathedral in the Light
Cathedral in the Light is a community-based, inclusive, outdoor Christian worship that gathers in the heart of Greenfield on the Common at 2 p.m. every Sunday—rain or shine, sleet or snow. Twice a year, on Mission Sunday, we prepare a meal and serve it to this outdoor community, participate in worship and help clean up.
Relay for Life
Relay for Life is the world’s largest fundraising event for cancer. Team participants show their support for those affected by cancer and raise money for the American Cancer Society by taking turns walking around a track over a 24-hour period. Every June, you’ll find many of our church members doing their part to help support this cause.
Habitat for Humanity – The House That Faith Built
Pioneer Valley Habitat for Humanity seeks to build three zero-net energy homes off Glendale Road in Northampton. Our church is a part of an interfaith coalition raising $30,000 for one of those homes. Making a donation, getting involved in fundraising, and/or volunteering to help build a home are all ways to get involved.
Monetary Support
In addition, we support the following local organizations through monetary donations:
Amherst Survival Center
Safe Passage
Not Bread Alone
Food Bank of Western MA
Service Net (cot-shelter program)
Hadley Food Pantry
